I first learned to weave on one of those square red metal looms, turning out potholders in the summer of my 8th year. Then, I really learned to weave while attending Northern Illinois University (Bachelor of Arts degree). Then, I REALLY learned to weave at the Webschule Sindelfingen(a weaving trade school in Germany). All the while, I’ve been weaving, and teaching weaving, and exploring the world of possibilities that textile arts present.

I started as a painter and art historian. In 1980 I discovered batik, after working as a textile research associate at the Museum of International Folk Art for ten years. Batik combined my love for textiles with my training as a painter.

VERA NEEL
Luverù
Albuquerque
I work with felt in layers.
it is color, fabric, yarn, or hand embellishment, each layer is carefully explored and selected, and the relationship to the underlying layers is considered and approached. The result is a subtle relationship of art and design that make each piece unique. Visit Vera's Listing on the

Vera Neel's newest passion is nuno-felting which is a unique outlet of her expression of Russian tradition, which gives life to a vision incorporated into wearable art.
The name is derived from the Japanese word "nuno" meaning cloth. The technique bonds loose fibre, usually wool, into a sheer fabric such as silk gauze, creating a lightweight felt. |
As a Native of southern Siberia in Russia, I grew up in a miraculous place on our planet where winter’s ice turns quickly to the heat of summer and you can see amazing changes in the unexplored wilderness all around.

TAMMY WENDERLICH
Textile Designer and Illustrator
Corrales
My work begins with mixed-media mono prints created with many layers of stencils, stamps and vibrant color.
I also have a notebook full of sketches with ideas gathered from walks along the Rio Grande.
From this raw material, I work digitally to create repeating patterns and illustrations.
These designs are printed on fabric (used to create home accessories) or paper (for wall prints, cards and books).
My husband (a furniture builder) and I own Desert Bird Mercantile, a retail store in Albuquerque’s historic
Old Town Patio Market where we offer our artist-made home furnishings and accessories.
