Mama Clodie François became an ancestor on Sunday at 5:45p. My mom loved being alive, more than just about anyone
I have ever met. She was committed to living fully and wholeheartedly despite whatever life threw at her, including living with an aggressive ovarian cancer and countless rounds of chemo treatments over the past 6 years. A month ago when her treatment options dwindled, I witnessed her make the courageous choice to face her lifelong fear of dying. Eyes wide open, willing to face death as the next chapter of her life. She told my brother Bastien and I she wanted to die with grace, that she wanted the doors of her home open to all to visit her, and that she wanted to have a life celebration party while she was still alive. We were so lucky to have a month of preparation to support her in having those wishes met.

We celebrate the life and honor the passing of Claude François, lovingly known as Clodie, (age 73) on September 5th at home with her family after a 6 year long fight with ovarian cancer. She was a French native who made her home in Vallecitos, NM with a quest to express the grandiose beauty of the place and colors through her incredible artwork. She was a wonderful artist of many kinds, known as Mesdames Carton, who over the past 20 years honed her craft as a conveyor of light through the creation of her sculpted lamps. Clodie was also a beloved mother, grandmother and community member. She will be dearly missed by many. She is survived by her two children, Bastien Founes and Quetzal Francois, grandchildren, Marlow and Izïa, son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Valerie, sisters, Virginie and Michelle and niece, Tiana, as well as the rest of her French family and her many friends.

It is with great sadness that her family announce the passing of much loved and treasured artist Clodie Francois. She was
a wonderful creator, known as Mesdames Carton, who over the past 20 years honed her craft as a conveyor of light
through the creation of her sculpted lamps. Her amazing lamps expressed her ‘joie de vivre’, her passionate energy,
and beautiful aesthetic which drew inspiration from the Northern New Mexican skies and mountains.
She was a constant cheerleader for artists and humans of all kinds, helping them develop their skills, voice, and confidence. As a long time High Road Art Tour Organization board member, she also worked tirelessly on raising much needed funding to keep the yearly tour (High Road Studio Tour, NM) alive and thriving.
Au revoir Clodie. Merci pour tous!
